Tune Your Guitar in a Noisy Room using PRS Jam Amp and Guitarbud

1. Insert the Guitarbud’s ¼” phone plug into your guitar.

2. Insert the 1/8” mini-plug into the headphone jack of your iPhone.

3. Open PRS Jam Amp application. Select the tuner icon on the bottom of the screen tuner icon.

4. The Guitarbud has turned off the internal microphone, and is now, only allowing your direct guitar signal to enter into the iPhone.

5. Turn up you guitar volume, and start tuning!

6. Surrounding noise will no longer interfere with tuning, when using the iPhone!

Using Jam Amp (with Guitarbud™) and 1st Generation iPhone's

Providing all digital signal processing to play back tracks with independently adjustable speed and pitch along with real time dsp based guitar effects takes serious processing power on the part of the iPhone (along with the ingenious algorithms BMR/PRS provide), The 1st generation iPhone has a considerably slower processor than later iPhone's, Jam Amp is aware of which model iPhone you are using and adjusts it's buffer size (bigger buffers give the processor more time to do manipulations to the sound streams) making sure that all Jam Amp functions properly. The larger buffers increase the delay / latency of the application. Best performance will be on the fastest iPhone (currently the 3GS).

The jack in the 1st Generation iPhone is recessed deeply into the device, making it inaccessible to most headphones (and the Guitarbud™), despite the headphone jack being standard. This means that the Guitarbud™ like standard headphones headphones won’t work with the1st generation iPhone without an adaptor. You can use the Guitarbud™ with a 1st Generation iPhone with any of a number of adaptors including:

Using Jam Amp and iPod Touch

The PRS Jam Amp Live Amp and Tuner works on iPod Touch 2nd or 3rd generation using an external microphone or PRS Guitarbud™ interface. The tuner can be used in a reasonably quiet room with an external microphone like the SwitchEasy ThumbTacks, an ultra compact microphone for your iPod Touch 2G, that looks very cool. http://www.switcheasy.com/products/ThumbTacks/ThumbTacks.php

Tips & Warnings for Using the PRS Jam Amp Tuner

It is best to tune on the initial attack using a moderate pick pressure, then let the reading settle slightly flat.
It is important to note that the guitar is not an even-tempered instrument and will never be in perfect tune. It is designed around imperfect math that does not allow it to maintain perfect intonation.
It is common, when restringing the guitar with new strings, that it will go out of tune. The strings are new and still stretching. Don't be discouraged. Instead, try to gently pull tension on each individual string to aid in accelerating the 'stretching' process.
If the neck of your guitar is even slightly warped, you're going to have a hard tuning your strings.
