Turning Off the iPhone’s phone for uninterrupted App usage.

To avoid interruption while using PRS Jam Amp, you can turn on Airplane mode in iPhone Settings (this will ensure that you are not interrupted during use but will not allow you to receive or place phone calls). If you are on a WIFI network you can use airplane mode to turn off the phone and then enable Wifi to be able to use web and PRS Jam Amp track uploading functionality without call interruption.

If you don’t turn on Airplane mode and receive a call while using , PRS Jam Amp will automatically pause. After the call ends you will be back brought back to the tracks screen if you were playing a track.

If you do turn on Airplane mode while using PRS Jam Amp make sure to turn it off when you are done to resume full phone functionality.

Input Level Issues

There is no input level control on the iPhone. The current Apple developer SDK does not let the app control the input level. To get a lower level, you either have to reduce the volume of the thing you are recording, i.e. turn down the volume control on your guitar.

Getting the “right” sound can be a bit complicated as the iPhone has an automatic gain control circuit, and we have observed differences between the various models iPhones and iPod Touch’s. You should adjust the volume control of your guitar and the Live Input volume (Amp Volume) in Jam Amp before you play with the input boost or crunch effects.

We are working to improve PRS Jam Amp with preset’s in a future release to simply this. Please use the support form on the PRS Jam Amp Support page to tell us about your experiences with specific guitars and setting so that we can use this information in future updates.

Here is some more information we have found regarding the iPhone input that we will be addressing in future versions of Jam Amp – The iPhone 3G rolls off the input signals below 100 Hz.

Welcome!

The PRS JamAmp app lets you slow down and loop sections of songs so that you can analyze and learn to play those tricky guitar parts. Use it to write, learn and practice riffs to go along with the songs that you have uploaded to PRS JamAmp from your computer.

PRS JamAmp also acts as a mini practice amp when you plug your guitar into your iPhone or iPod Touch 2nd Gen using the PRS Guitarbud™ the guitarist interface™ – guitar-to-iPhone cable.

Importing your songs

Unfortunately, iPhone apps aren’t allowed direct access to the songs in your iTunes library. It’s simple to get music from your computer to the PRS JamAmp application – you don’t even have to install any software.
Here’s what to do to load your audio tracks into this app:

Make sure your phone is connected to the same wi-fi network as your computer.

NETWORK_INSTRUCTIONS

Playing live guitar through your phone

Go to the ‘Amp Effects’ tab and turn on the live effects. The phone will now act like a guitar amp using the input from your phone’s microphone. Turning on live effects a guitar plugged in will probably cause some horrible feedback! To get the full benefit of JamAmp you can use the PRS Guitarbud™ cable, which lets you plug-in your guitar and headphones/earbuds, so you’ll be able to practice without needing a separate amp.

Please note that the live audio won’t work on first-generation iPods, because they don’t have a microphone!

Listening to songs

Once you’ve imported some tracks/songs from your computer into JamAmp, you can tap on a song to go to the playback page and listen to it.

This page lets you zoom around the song’s waveform, add markers at interesting moments, and repeatedly loop sections simply by tapping the area between a pair of markers.

It has controls to slow down the song without affecting its pitch, which is handy for figuring out those fast sections.

There are also pitch controls to let you adjust the song’s pitch without affecting its tempo. Jimi Hendrix fans will appreciate this – on many of his songs, he tuned his guitar down a half-step, so by nudging the pitch up by 1 semitone, you can play along without having to re-tune your own guitar!

When you’re on the play screen, you can see a quick summary of all these controls by tapping the ‘i’ button in the top-right of the screen.
