PRS (Paul Reed Smith) launches the Guitarbud, the guitarist’s interface for the iPhone. This accessory allows you to plug your guitar directly into your iPhone and iPod touch 2G for use with all guitar applications. There is also a jack for you to connect your headphones.

The Guitarbud basically replaces your iPhone’s built in mic with the direct output of your guitar, meaning you can use your guitar with any app that your mic worked. This 6 foot special instrument cable also be used with bass or keyboard and it works with the company’s PRS Jam Amp, Voice Memos, StompVox and many other apps.

Jam With Your iPhone – PRS GuitarBud

by ROB TILLOTSON on MARCH 4, 2010 ·

The iPhone platform has quite a few apps for musicians, but what about the instrument itself? Now you can connect your electric guitar directly to your iPhone or iPod Touch (2nd gen or later) with the GuitarBudfrom PRS. It plugs into the iPhone’s audio jack and has connections for headphonesand a guitar. To go along with the GuitarBud, PRS also has their own iPhone app, PRS JamAmp, which is an amp simulator and practice aid, but you can use the GuitarBud with any app that supports microphone input. The GuitarBud sells for about $30 at online music retailers; the JamAmp app is $9.99 in the app store.

SlashGear.com has unearthed a cable that musicians will probably be very excited to hear about called the Guitarbud, that lets you plug a guitar directly into your iPhone, as well as providing a headphone jack so that you can listen to your noodlings in private (sometimes that’s the best way!). The Guitarbud is made by Paul Reed Smith (PRS), and you can learn more about it on their website. The specially adapted cable was designed for guitarists by Bond Music Research, makers of PRS’ Signature Series Guitar cables used by leading guitarists. The cable is six-feet long, but lightweight at the same time so that you can put it in your pocket. The emphasis is firmly on portability and being able to record your riffs anywhere you happen to be, even using just the iPhone Voice Memo app, although PRS says that the cable will work with any app that is compatible with the iPhone mic. They also recommend more specific musicians’ apps that can be used with the Guitarbud, such as their own PRS Jam Amp, Riff Raters and GigDaddy Multitrack Mixer.
